Victoria Amani Carroccio
Victoria Amani Carroccio - BS in Agriculture, MA in Counseling
Social Emotional Learning Educator, School Counselor
I have been bringing Yoga Ed and Mindful Ed to the charter and district schools in Taos County for 14 years which inspired me to get my masters degree in Counseling from Highlands University. I recently joined the Taos Academy team as a Licensed School Counselor and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor to provide social, emotional, and academic support to students as they navigate their way through the sometimes muddy waters of life. My intention is to create a safe space for students to have a conversation about mental health and wellness, to learn stress management tools, and to explore self-care strategies. I also love teaching yoga, mindfulness, psychology and health or being a guest speaker in the advisory classes.

Gayle Densow
Gayle Densow - BA in Sociology/Anthropology w/minor in History; and a MA in English and Reading Instruction
College Link-UNM Advisor/Administrator
Greetings and Welcome! As an artist, my family could honestly say my interests were evident early on from the walls of my childhood home. I used those walls as a canvas! My Mom was so patient and supportive and saved most of my work. (Thanks, Mom!) I grew up as an Army Brat and we lived all over the U.S. and parts of the world. I always looked forward to the next new place. One could say I was always the 'new kid'. But, the beginnings of my 'global thinking' probably began in childhood. My Dad was my guide to the natural world, fly fishing, auto mechanics, music, and baseball. Both of my parents were bibliophiles. I was SO busy with many interests and it was years later that I heard the term 'lifelong' learner. For me as an educator my mantra and goal for all of my students is to begin with the end in mind. I hold a BA in Sociology/Anthropology w/minor in History; and a MA in English and Reading Instruction and Curriculum. I have endorsements in Social Studies, English, Reading Specialist (literacy coach). I have been a Curator of Education in two major U.S. zoos where I developed and instructed interpretive curriculum for 100+ adult docents and coordinated 100+ Junior Zookeepers who volunteered throughout the zoo under Master Keepers' supervision. I served on two Master Planning committees to work with internationally acclaimed architects to design exhibits and develop interpretive materials. I also wrote grants for funding educational programs. I have dedicated my life to this profession with no regrets. It's the second most important job in the world right behind being a good parent.

Dr. Traci Filiss
Dr. Traci Filiss - EdD
Executive Director/Superintendent
My career in educational innovation began as a High School Science teacher in Woodstock, VT and continued into NM inspiring kids as a teacher at Enos Garcia and Eagle Nest Elementary. As an innovative teacher I understood that change in educational opportunities was greatly needed. I received my MS in Educational Technology and later my EdD Doctor of Education Administration. Taos Academy's hybrid model was developed with the flexibility of digital learning with the strength of relational learning found in face to face instruction. As founder of Taos Academy it is my philosophy that by providing an environment for kids to feel empowered, encouraged, and inspired supports the mission and vision of TA for developing student ownership of  lifelong learning.

I had never been to Taos and pulling up to my new casita with a bright blue door against a majestic mountain backdrop felt very magical. That very first night it snowed almost 2 feet and I experienced my first powder day at TSV. After moving back to South Dakota and teaching for several years, I had a strong desire to move back to Taos. I was hired by Taos Academy Charter School in 2019. It has been a joy teaching in Taos and serving the community. I enjoy skiing, hiking, painting, traveling, spending time with friends, and camping with my husband and dog.

Skills such as creative critical thinking, collaboration and communication, global awareness, personal responsibility and career and life skills are all important in today’s world.
“Every child in public school should have an individualized plan for their education.  Families shouldn’t have to pay tuition at a private school in order to get their needs met.  Education of a child is more than academics alone.  It takes experiences with peers and within the community, interactions that develop communication and problem solving skills.  Taos Academy is an inherent part of preparing our children to be successful in their lives.”
